What gets checked in a pink slip

An eSafety check is a safety inspection, not a full mechanical health check. We go over the things that make the car safe to be on the road: brakes, tyres and wheels, steering and suspension, lights and indicators, seatbelts, horn, windscreen, wipers and washers, plus the exhaust and any fluid leaks. We also look for rust or body damage serious enough to affect safety. If it all checks out, the pass is lodged with Transport for NSW on the spot and you can renew your rego straight away.

When your pink slip is due

In NSW, light vehicles more than five years old need an eSafety check before each rego renewal, and your renewal notice from Transport for NSW will say whether one is required. The inspection stays valid for six months, so there's no need to leave it until the week rego runs out. Get it done when the notice arrives and renew whenever suits you.

What happens if my car fails the inspection?

You get a repair notice listing exactly what needs fixing, and 14 days to have it re-inspected without paying for a second full inspection. Because we're a workshop as well as an inspection station, we can usually quote and do the repairs on the spot, then re-test.

How long does a pink slip take?

The inspection itself takes around 20–30 minutes. The result is lodged electronically with Transport for NSW straight away, so you can renew your rego online the same day.
