When do I need a blue slip instead of a pink slip?

A blue slip is for unregistered vehicles — rego lapsed more than 3 months, interstate transfers to NSW, imports, or vehicles with defect notices requiring a full inspection. A pink slip is just the annual safety check for renewing existing NSW rego.

How do I get an unregistered car to your workshop?

You can drive an unregistered vehicle directly to a booked inspection using an Unregistered Vehicle Permit from Service NSW, or tow/trailer it in. Give us a call first so the booking is in place — that matters for the permit.

What does a blue slip check that a pink slip doesn't?

On top of the safety inspection, a blue slip verifies the vehicle's identity — VIN, engine number, compliance plates — and checks that any modifications are within the rules. It's a longer, more thorough inspection.

How long does a blue slip take?

Allow around an hour for the inspection itself. If the vehicle passes, we lodge the result electronically and you can complete registration through Service NSW.
